MARK MY WORDS: SKINS GET BEARS AND MONKEY OFF THEIR BACKS

Washington got the road monkey off their back yesterday, winning their first game away from FedEx Field this season, 24-21. The Bears dropped to 1-6 at Soldier Field this year and have lost consecutive games at home. The Redskins, who were a combined 0-10 on the road, ended a nine-game road losing streak, tied for their longest in franchise history. DC is now 2-12 away from home under Coach Jay Gruden.

• Did you think the Skins were going to cruise to an easy win after taking 14-point leads on two separate occasions … HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! After Washington went ahead 21-7 on their first drive of the second half, the Bears marched 80 yards on 10 plays to score their first third-quarter touchdown of the season.

• Washington showed no signs of a Dallas hangover on their first possession, going 80 yards on a 15-play touchdown drive, that consumed more than eight minutes. The offense looked nothing like it did in Monday’s bitter loss to the Cowboys; fullback Darrel Young was on the field, Cousins ran bootlegs and the Skins threw the ball on first down. No kidding!

• Jordan Reed was Washington’s most dangerous player on offense, and it wasn’t close. Reed finished with nine catches for 120 yards and a touchdown.

• QB Kirk Cousins completed 24 of 31 passes for 300 yards, 

• Alfred Morris carried eight times for 17 yards on the opening drive and bulled his way to a one-inch touchdown run. His first of the season. Hmmmmm.

• At one juncture, on second and goal from the Chicago three, Cousins kept the ball and jogged into the end zone. It was his fourth rushing touchdown this season; Captain Kirk did not hit the Dab. 

• Cousins’s first interception in three games came at a bad spot, deep in Washington territory. He floated a pass for Pierre Garçon that was picked off by the Bears’ Kyle Fuller. Three plays later, the Bears pulled even on a Matt Forte touchdown run.

• The Skins answered with a 47-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins on their next possession. DeSean Jackson, hobbled for much of the second half, accounted for 29 of Washington’s 51 yards on the scoring drive with a gorgeous diving catch along the sideline.

• The more this season continues for Washington, the more one has to admire Coach Jay Gruden’s decision to go with Cousins as his quarterback. And the more you have to admire Kirk Cousins for becoming a difference maker in the face of fierce criticism.
